Welcome to this months Top Tips! Where we share useful IT tips and tricks to help you work more efficiently and make the most of technology.

With many of you now working from home, we are focusing on some useful tips to help you setup and work efficiently in this different work environment.

Take a Break! - It is important that you continue to take regular breaks. We have compiled a couple of tips to follow when working at home.

  • Stand up, stretch, move around and even go for a short walk
  • Keep hydrated, it is easy to lose track of time at your computer
  • Don’t sit or stand for too long – change your posture every few minutes
  • Take regular micro-breaks away from your laptop.
  • It helps to have a routine, this will ensure you can schedule your breaks
  • Take a lunch break at the same time as you would in the office

Dual screens with your Laptop - Using a laptop and have a spare screen or TV? Then setup dual screens! All you need is a computer screen (or even a TV) and the required cable for your screen inputs. HDMI/VGA or Display Port are the usual cables you will need depending on your laptop output/screen input. Once you have your hardware setup, you can 'rearrange' the screens in Windows 10 to ensure when you move your mouse around the dual screens, that it correctly identifies which screen is on which side.

Using a Laptop at Home? Add a Keyboard & Mouse! - A relatively cheap solution with so many benefits, make use of a USB or bluetooth keyboard & mouse when working on your laptop at home. Laptop trackpads and keyboards are not very ergonomical when working for long periods

Following this tip can also be good for your health as it is good practice to use a seperate keyboard, mouse and screen to avoid Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI).
